With the goal of restoring S/V Bubbles to continue the cycle of inspiration,
the Chasing Bubbles Foundation has launched "The 53 Campaign",
a fundraising campaign with a once-in-a-lifetime benefit!
The CBF Cycle of inspiration
One of the Chasing Bubbles Foundation's main operating models is "the cycle of inspiration". Alex's story and the Chasing Bubbles documentary have inspired so many people worldwide and this inspiration is the initial source for this cycle.
The stories we share of those like Alex who have dared greatly to chase their dreams empower others to take action. It is these actions that fuel the foundation. The CBF is then able to encourage and provide resources for others around the world to fulfill their own dreams, creating more inspiring stories to share... And the cycle continues!
The 53 Campaign is the Inspiration cycle in motion!
Those who have been inspired by Alex's story and want to get involved in our efforts can help to fund the restoration of S/V Bubbles for the amazing opportunity of climbing aboard themselves. Then, with Bubbles in working order, the CBF will be able to create more, new stories of inspiration.
What you need to know about the 53 campaign
What is the significance of the number 53?
We are asking for 53 donations and offering 53 opportunities to sail on S/V Bubbles because Alex's football number was 53 when he was a linebacker for the Seymour High School football team that won the Hoosier Hills Conference in 2001. The Seymour HS football team has not repeated this great championship feat again until October of this year, so let's celebrate!!
When is the 53 campaign?
The campaign starts October 17 and runs through Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2022. Donations are always appreciated but this is your time to donate to be on the "First 53" guest list!
Where will the 53 campaign funds go?
S/V Bubbles lost her mast to Hurricane Irma, so CBF is looking to purchase a new motor and mast to get her back on the water. Donations to this campaign will go towards these restoration efforts.
How much does the 53 campaign need to raise?
We would like to raise at least $15,000 with this campaign, but additional funds will speed up the rebuild of Bubbles!
What are the benefits of donating to The 53 Campaign?
With the fulfillment of the campaign, the CBF will give back to Seymour youth athletics with a donation of 53 footballs to Seymour's schools and youth clubs. Your donation will also give you early access to come sail on S/V Bubbles which is a quick domestic flight away - no passport required. After hurricane season ends and Bubbles is in working order, we will be ready to lead our First 53 on their own inspirational Caribbean adventures! The foundation will work with the list of donors on the exact timing and the capacity for which they'd like to be "onboard". The details on all of this are kind of tricky to pinpoint as getting Bubbles back on the water in good sailing condition is the first step and could include unknown factors.
Where is S/V Bubbles?
Bubbles is currently in St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands but will be towed over to Nanny Cay in the British Virgin Islands for repairs. Nanny Cay is where Alex originally purchased Bubbles and completed his circumnavigation of the world.
How can I make a donation to The 53 campaign?
Donations can be made via mailing a check to the Chasing Bubbles Foundation (8256 North Base Rd, Seymour, IN 47274) with "53 Campaign" in the memo OR online via CBF's 501c3 non-profit Paypal account with "53 Campaign" in the memo. Anyone who makes a donation of $250 or more with "53 Campaign" indicated will be put on the list of future guests on S/V Bubbles.
What if I donate after the 53 campaign is over or after 53 people have donated?
Even if you don't make it into the First 53, this community of dreamers is for you! Although you would miss out on this specific opportunity, you can still select how to distribute your donations in PayPal, including supporting continued renovations via Project Bubbles. You can also stay in the loop with CBF and our global community of dreamers to be aware of any other unique opportunities for adventure that might arise!
What will Bubbles do once she is back on the water?
After she's back on the water, the CBF has been working with a number of non-profit groups, including the Boy Scouts of America's "Sea Scouts" program to find the best way to utilize S/V Bubbles. We have also been looking into chartering options and participating in a sailing school.
Any long-term plans for Bubbles?
We plan to do a complete restoration via Project Bubbles to return her to her new condition, which will require volunteers and additional funding. While the long-term future of Bubbles is still in the air, we know she will be crucial in helping the Chasing Bubbles Foundation to continue the cycle of inspiration. Sign up for our mailing list to volunteer or stay in the loop, and follow us on Facebook to see Project Bubbles updates!
