The Journey of S/V Bubbles
After completing her circumnavigation in 2012, S/V Bubbles floated through the hands of a few other owners until the Chasing Bubbles Foundation tracked her down in the U.S. Virgin Islands in 2021. Then, on June 14th (Alex's birthday) of 2022, ten years after completing the circumnavigation, CBF bought her back! Since then, we have been working hard on a complete restoration with the help of volunteers, fans, dreamers, and generous donors. We are especially thankful to Christine Gordan, a former Bubbles crew member under Captain Alex, for her exceptional leadership in shepherding the refit. Bubbles is Back to Empower Kids!
The Chasing Bubbles Foundation is committed to revitalizing this vessel, preserving her legacy to inspire generations to come. In 2019, when we established the Chasing Bubbles Foundation, our vision extended beyond the documentary to a broader mission: to help kids around the world chase their dreams. Alex's life tragically ended in India while he was looking for ways to help kids in need. We picked up where he left off, supporting 12 students in India with scholarships and virtual coaching from our volunteers. And now, with S/V Bubbles back in the water, we have expanded our mission into the Virgin Islands where Alex completed his circumnavigation!
Our youth program, called The Chasing Bubbles Day Camp, provides local youth in the Virgin Islands with essential sailing skills, fostering confidence and inspiring future marine careers. Partnering with the St. Thomas Boys & Girls Club, we identified a critical gap in water-related skills among island children and launched a successful pilot program where students transformed from nervous beginners to confident sailors. With the guidance of passionate volunteers, the kids developed a love for the ocean and a sense of belonging. Our mission continues to grow, and with community support, we aim to run this impactful program repeatedly, ensuring Alex's dream lives on and more kids are inspired to pursue their passions.

Not only is Bubbles teaching island kids how to sail and build confidence, but it also serves as an ASA-certified sailing school based out of the Virgin Islands, open to everyone.
